Aobakwe Harriet Mashasha

Foundation Phase Educator | Children’s Author | Education Advocate

I’m Aobakwe Harriet Mashasha, a passionate Foundation Phase teacher and the 2024 National Teaching Awards winner for Excellence in Grade R Teaching. I teach because I believe that early childhood education is the foundation of a just and joyful society. My classroom is a place of possibility, where young minds learn through play, creativity, and connection.

I’m currently teaching Grade R at Platinum Village Primary School and serve on the School-Based Support Team and Environmental Committee. I advocate for inclusive education, learner support, and sustainability in learning spaces. My mission is to ensure that every child—regardless of background—receives the nurturing, affirmation, and learning they deserve.

Beyond the classroom, I’m the creator of the Queen Modjadji children’s book series. These stories celebrate African identity, environmental awareness, phonics, and future-ready life skills. My dream is to turn them into global educational tools, inspiring young learners through local storytelling.

Building a strong community of educators is vital to me. I believe teachers are nation-builders, and when we support one another, we amplify our impact. I’m committed to collaboration, mentorship, and creating a network where teachers grow together.

My vision for education in South Africa is rooted in equity, innovation, and child-centered practices. I dream of classrooms that are culturally rich, emotionally safe, and alive with imagination.

My superpower? Turning ideas into impact—whether through storytelling, lesson planning, or inspiring learners to believe in themselves.
