Tidimalo Montsheng Tamane

My name is Tidimalo Montsheng Tamane. As an aspiring scientist who studied Chemistry, Mathematics, and Applied Mathematics, I discovered my passion for teaching while volunteering at the NWU Science Centre. That experience revealed my natural talent for being in the classroom and inspired me to pursue education. I use my love for science and mathematics to encourage learners to study these subjects without fear, showing them that they are not as complicated as they may seem.

My goal is to see learners from my community value education as the key to a better future. I am especially passionate about inspiring young girls to believe in their dreams and pursue them, regardless of their background. Teaching mathematics allows me to help learners connect classroom concepts to real-life problem-solving and to appreciate the subject as a vital life skill.

I focus on making mathematics easy and relatable by using different strategies and approaches to solve problems. My aim is to break the stigma that “mathematics is complicated” and replace it with the belief that “mathematics becomes easier with practice.” In my classroom, I encourage teamwork, peer learning, and strategic problem-solving, which help learners gain confidence in their abilities.

My teaching philosophy is rooted in inquiry-based learning and creating an environment where learners feel comfortable to ask questions and engage actively. I take pride in my discipline techniques, consistent classroom management, and ability to build meaningful connections with learners. I believe that mathematics equips individuals with essential life skills, from budgeting to critical thinking, and has the power to transform South Africa’s future.
