School: Letsibogo Girls High School
Based: Soweto, Gauteng
Basane Simango is a teacher at heart who believes in equal education for everyone despite their socioeconomic background. I believe in equality for all sexes, I was awarded the fearless feminist award in 2019 by the TuksReswomen in Leadership Academy for the work I did within my community to ensure that women are not left behind because of socioeconomic challenges they come across in the township. I volunteered as a facilitator in the academy for a year because of my passion for women. By the grace of God I am currently working in a school for girls in Soweto, Letsibogo Girls High School which has been awarded the best township school in Gauteng. I am currently going ahead and making sure that the girl child is not left behind and channelling them to their greatest potential.
While at the University of Pretoria, I served at the Faculty House as a Well-being Officer, I was also serving in my residence because I believe that leadership is about serving others. I then went on to work as an assistant lecturer till I completed my Honours degree and started teaching full-time.
I have also had the opportunity to travel while representing my tertiary institution (University of Pretoria) in different organisations such as the United Nations in Thailand and Cape Town for the Green Campus Conference. I am a teacher and a leader that believes in serving others.
