My name is Katlego Thwane, a school principal at Wings of Life Afrika Tikkun Diepsloot, founder of Atlegang Bana Foundation, a passionate educator, and a firm believer in the transformative power of education. I became a teacher because I saw education as the one tool that could change the course of a child’s life—and I wanted to be part of that change. I believe that when we plant seeds of hope, knowledge, and belief in children, we shape a better future for all.
I am passionate about building a strong community of teachers because I understand that no educator can thrive in isolation. Teaching is a deeply human profession, and when teachers feel supported, connected, and empowered, their impact multiplies. That’s why I founded Atlegang Bana—to be a space where educators grow together, share ideas, and support one another.
My areas of interest in education include early childhood development, digital learning, teacher wellness, and curriculum design that reflects our learners’ realities. I am committed to helping teachers grow not just professionally, but also personally, because I believe a nurtured teacher nurtures others.
My dream for education in South Africa is to see every child—regardless of their background—access high-quality, inclusive, and joyful learning. I envision schools that embrace digital innovation, celebrate diversity, and empower both learners and educators. I dream of a country where teachers are respected, well-resourced, and recognized as the nation-builders they truly are.
My superpower is nurturing potential. Whether it’s in a struggling child, a first-time teacher, or a new idea, I have the ability to see the possibilities and bring them to life with compassion and purpose. I lead with heart, and I teach with hope.
Through storytelling, collaboration, and a deep love for children, I aim to continue making a difference in education—one child, one teacher, and one community at a time.
