Bhongo Lesizwe Mkonto

School: St Augustine’s R.C Primary School
Based: Parow, Western Cape

My name is Bhongo Lesizwe Mkonto, a 27-year-old from Khayelitsha. I studied BEd: Foundation Phase at UNISA. I am currently a grade 2 teacher at St Augustine’s R.C Primary School.

I firmly believed in my natural ability hence I become a teacher. Because I saw the need for me to become a tree of knowledge, hope and inspiration not only in the classroom but to my community at large and to build pupils academically and mentally for them to be mindful of themselves and their surroundings.

My goal in the education sector is to mold pupils to achieve their different individual academic success, creating a sustainable reading culture in the classroom and in pupils’ households. Personally, my goal in the education profession is to be an education curriculum developer. I believe there is a need for creativity, innovative and learner-centered education curriculum.

The vision I have for South Africa’s education is for all pupils to have access to relevant, equal and quality education, and for learners with learning barriers to be catered for by relevant and quality schools designated for each pupil’s special need.

My superpower is being a pebble, like a pebble into the water through my actions of kindness, love, inspiration and adding hope – I am creating a ripple positive effect on my surroundings.
